Abstract

Previously Aichi Gakuin University Library and Information Center classified material using NDC7.But as the materials increased, we had difficulty in classifying materials. Because NDC7 was revised in 1961 and too old to adapt itself to the situation we have today. On April 1, 2004, the Dental and Pharmaceutical Library and Information Center adopted NDC9 for classifying new materials because the number of materials and users in new study fields was expected to increase. Thirty divisions were added and subdivided into 45 categories, most of which were novel because most of the material was related to dentistry, and the details table for dentistry “497” in the chapter of NDC9 had only 15 divisions. This report discusses the present classification and examines whether the novel categories contradict the classification system and synthetic principle of the NDC.
