Abstract
Generation Z is going through a period of the formation, socialization and mastering professional skills. In that regard, it is relevant to study the personal characteristics of centenarians. The aim of the study is to analyze the hierarchical structure of the value-motivational sphere of generation Z and the relationship between individual values and locus of control. The sample included centennial students of Moscow universities who were asked to fill out the online Schwartz Portrait Questionnaire, adapted for the Russian sample and the Subjective Control Level questionnaire. Statistical data processing was carried out using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov criterion, Student’s t-test and Mann–Whitney criterion, Pearson and Spearman correlations were calculated to analyze interrelations. The hierarchical structure of value preferences of young men and women is different. For centennials of both sexes, altruistic values are of the greatest importance, dominating over individualism, conservatism and passive sociality (strict adherence to rules and standards, requiring protection by the state); but conservatism and passive sociality of girls occupy higher positions in the hierarchy of value preferences than those of boys. Significant differences in the assessments of value priorities between the sexes are found when it comes to sensual pleasures and having fun, and when considering the enlarged category of values derived from the needs for sensual pleasures, and for independence and variety. The interrelations between values and the locus of control in young men and women are formed by a different set of internality indicators and, in the overwhelming majority, by different values. In young men, internality in the area of achievements is interconnected with Achievement and Self-Enhancement, internality in relation to health – with Conformity and Hedonism. In girls, internality in the area of achievements is interconnected with Conformity, Tradition and Conservation, internality in relation to health – with Benevolence, internality in interpersonal relationships – with Universalism
