Abstract

Objectives This study aims to provide basic data for future research on virtual reality utilization education in domestic universities by analyzing research trends in virtual reality utilization education in domestic universities.
Methods This study was conducted from August 2022 to January 2023. 77 academic papers published in domestic journals from 2003 to August 2022 were analyzed according to the research period, research type, research content, major area, and trends in related variables.
Results First, the most research on virtual reality utilization education in domestic universities was conducted between 2018 and 2022. Second, as for the trend by research type, the proportion of quantitative research was high, followed by qualitative research, mixed research, and literature research. Third, as for the trend by major area, utilization was high in nursing and linguistics. Fourth, as for the trend by research content, the development of virtual reality education programs and studies on their effects were the most common. Fifth, the trend by related variable showed that classes using virtual reality were used as independent variables, flow as mediating variables, and learning satisfaction and academic achievement as dependent variables.
Conclusions This study is meaningful in that it examines the research trend of virtual reality utilization education in domestic universities and suggests the direction of future research.
