Abstract

The article touches upon the concept of “pragmatic text” and its role in the methodology of teaching foreign languages. The peculiarities of pragmatic texts are studied, identifying their communicative and sociocultural value. It is highlighted that the mastering of pragmatic texts prepares students for solving real communication problems when they are in the country of the target language and need to use information received in auditory or printed forms. The article illustrates the types of pragmatic texts according to their external descriptive features, communicative purpose and area of application. Reference is made to the methodological approaches that allow using pragmatic texts in the process of teaching a foreign language. Exercises based on pragmatic texts are presented, aimed at developing different language skills. The author comes to the conclusion that incorporating pragmatic texts into the teaching process can contribute to the development of students’ foreign language communicative competence.
