Abstract

This article analyzes the debate about the nature of absolutism and the genesis of capitalism that took place at numerous symposiums and conferences during the 1950s and 1960s and on the pages of many specialist journals. The author believes that it is time to return to many of those unresolved issues with new perspectives.
