Abstract

In this study, we focus on two young writers, Liu Binyan and Liu Shaotang. In Re-blooming Flowers(1979), in which their works were included, works by writers who were published between 1956 and 1957 but were criticized after the anti-rightist struggle are included. In this paper, we focus on the two young writers, and examine their works and the content and methods of their criticism. Criticism of those examined through Journal of Literature and Art was made in the form of criticism through critique papers, holding a criticism conference, and writing articles about the criticism conference and remarks there. However, criticism of writers and works is not limited to the ban on individual activities and publication of works, but also affects many parts of the literary world. For example, ‘Young Literary Workers Discussion’ was held. In there, through criticism and self-criticism, they re-educated young writers who were already working in literature. In addition, in the wake of the massive criticism of these young writers, the existing method of nurturing new writers was abandoned and the direction was changed to mass training of amateur creators. In addition, the publication of literary periodicals also faced various changes as the direction of how to define and help young creators and readers to foster was changed. As such, it can be seen that ‘criticism and its prohibition’ did not end with itself, but at least in the late 1950s, as a criticism mechanism, had an impact on the entire literary world in many ways.
