Abstract
The article considers the phenomenon of holiday, its functions are revealed, the typology is highlighted, content conditionality by his-torical and cultural society realities. The author pays special attention to the holiday significance in the polyethnic region, namely in the Re-public of Buryatia, notes some new tendencies of the holiday calendar.
