Abstract

Objectives The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of evaluation concern perfectionism in the relationship between two types of procrastination motives (worry and optimism) and general procrastination behavior.
Methods For this study, 500 male and female college students were surveyed at a university located in Gyeonggi-do. Using the data collected through the questionnaire, correlations between variables were identified, and structural equation model analysis and mediation effect verification were conducted.
Results The results of this study are as follows. First, a significant positive correlation was confirmed between worry motivation and optimism motivation, evaluation concern perfectionism, and procrastination behavior. Second, in the worry motivation, both the indirect path through evaluation concern perfectionism and the direct path to procrastination behavior were significant, and the optimistic motivation showed that only the direct path to procrastination behavior was significant.
Conclusions This study confirmed the differential effects of evaluation concern perfectionism in the process of worry motivation and optimistic motivation leading to procrastination behavior. Consequently, it is meaningful to provide an intervention method for preventing and reducing procrastination behavior.
