Abstract

This report evaluates the use of steroid hormore cover during for rheumatoid arthritis patients, and offers guidelines for such use. We measured the daily urinary excretion of 17OHCS and 17KS in patients undergoing surgery for osteoarthritis of the hip. Preoperative mean values of 17OHCS and 17KS were 4.96mg/day and 4.46mg/day, respectively. The mean values of 17OHCS and 17KS on the day of surgery were 9.81mg/day and 9.14mg/day, respectively. If these mean values in RA patients for three days after ACTH injection are higher than the mean values on the day of surgery, we think that steroid cover is not necessary.
