Abstract
The purpose of the study is to identify possibilities for representing the concept VIRTUE / ХÆРЗУАГДЗИНАД in the English and Ossetian phraseology. The work is novel in that it is the first to examine national and cultural features of representation of the concept VIRTUE / ХÆРЗУАГДЗИНАД in the English and Ossetian proverbial systems and create a comprehensive quantitative classification of the phraseological units that contain the considered concept. As a result, the study has revealed predominance of common virtues in the English and Ossetian phraseology, as well as presence of lacunae in both the languages, accounted for by national and cultural specificity of an individual’s socialisation and their survival in the society.
