Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reflect on the experience of a researcher who is a middle school teacher operating a free semester program through self-study. Over the past three years, I have been in charge of planning and operating the free semester program and the same task as the head of the first grade department, reflecting on my experience of operating a curriculum reflecting the situation of schools and communities. After clearly understanding the vision of the free semester system program, an educational reform policy from above, the researcher developed and planned a free semester curriculum to implement ‘class improvement’ and ‘career exploration’. Although the organization of the free semester curriculum was limited in the framework of the national curriculum, it was able to exercise autonomy in terms of curriculum reconstruction. The example is village education, and the integration of village teacher classes for career exploration and the theme-based curriculum based on the village is representative. The free semester curriculum was expanded to the village curriculum. This entire process was not something the researcher could do alone. It was possible only through cooperation with fellow teachers. As a grade-head teacher, the researcher was able to experience establishing curriculum leadership.
