Abstract

The purpose of the article is to identify the musical innovations of the Chinese composer of the 20th century Zhao Xiaosheng, his contribution to the development of modern music, to trace the process of mutual influence of Chinese and Western cultures. The article provides an overview of Zhao Xiaosheng's creative path, and an analysis of his original composition system based on the integration of ancient Chinese philosophy and modern musical practice. The main attention is paid to the analysis of the correspondence between the eight parts of his piano composition "Taiji" and the eight trigrams of the ancient Chinese system "Ba Gua", which makes it possible to explicate the principles of the philosophy of Taiji through their embodiment in the music of Zhao Xiaoshen. This study offers readers a new perspective on the relationship between modern musical creativity and ancient Chinese philosophy.
