Abstract

Introduction. Scientists and practitions of different fields confirmed the value and benefits of humor in a personˈs mental life. They put humor along with other necessary emotional features of a professional that make up his professional competence. Nowadays this statement is considered to be an axiom. Humor is a psychological phenomenon, which performs diverse functions in life of the individual. It has the protective function of increasing the vitality of the body, resistance to extreme conditions.The critical aspect of humor is that it helps to expose all kinds of errors, prejudices, illusions and dogmatism in personal and public life. Humor serves as a means of self-preservation and adaptation, the realization of the need for self-transcendence. Today, there are a numbers of new publications and researches on the phenomenon of humor, which is associated with a new interpretation of the concept and emphasizes the increased interest in it.Purpose ‒ determine the impact of humorous means on the human mental life. Methods ‒ analysis of scientific researches, generalization, systematization. Originality ‒ the article summarize scientific research on the impact of humor on human mental health. An analysis of the modern program of regulatory-level humor therapy has been performed.Conclusion. Thus, humor contributes to the development of mechanisms of different levels of personal regulation; increase the level of personal functioning of a human. Sense of humor is sign of a mature person, and it’s development is a complicated increase of level of personal maturity as a norms and mental disorders. Humor allows distancing oneself from non-solvable or difficult problems, at least temporarily, and thus taking a fresh look at the problem. With the aim of influencing human health, the following is use today: laugher and humo-therapy; laughter yoga (hasya yoga); laughter in spiritual practices; hospital clownage (a component of clown care- Clown Care). Possibilities for further research on this subject are the creation of special programs and the development of exercises in laughing and humo-therapy.
