Abstract

This study aims to underscore the imperative need for career education among adult learners majoring in Korean language education while exploring potential directions for its enhancement. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature, we examined key themes such as 'adult learners and careers' as well as 'career education and career development competencies.‘ Despite increasing specific career needs, it has been noted that career education is vague and unsystematic. Furthermore, the connectivity between career education and the curriculum remains insufficient. Additionally, the recommended directions for career education for Korean language education majors predominantly include the cultivation of instructors' awareness of career education and provision of customized career guidance, a holistic approach to career education orientation, and career education linked with practical coursework. This study is significant in that it highlights pre-service Korean language teachers as an important target for career education in Korean language education, with implications for the direction of efficient career education.
