Abstract

In the structure of surgical interventions currently performed on the organ of vision and its adnexa, cataract phacoemulsification occupies the first place. However, there are frequent cases of Iol explantation in the late postoperative period due to their opacification. Purpose is to study the surface of cloudy Iols by means of electron microscopy and to determine the elemental composition of the identified deposits. Material and methods. microscopy of the surface of 8 explanted hydrophilic Iols was carried out using a digital inverted microscope «altami InVErt 3» with a magnification from 40x to 800x times. Elemental analysis of surface deposits was carried out on a Jeol Jcm-6000 electron microscope (Japan) with a JEd- 2300 energy dispersive analysis attachment. Results. It has been established that the morphological structure of the deposits on the Iol is represented by various crystals, in some places forming a continuous film that does not penetrate into the Iol material. the elemental composition of deposits has the following structure: carbon (c) — 40 %, nitrogen (n) — 18 %, oxygen (o) — 40 %; potassium (K), magnesium (mg), Sodium (na), phosphorus (p) — 2 % (all elements in total). Conclusion. Opacification of the hydrophilic type Iol has a membranous structure, presented in the form of deposits on the surface of the entire Iol, and not just in the pupillary lumen. considering the molecular composition of the deposits, it should be assumed that they are of an organic nature.
