Abstract
It is no exaggeration to say that research on Korea’s printing culture is focused on the world’s first metal movable type. The importance of the birth of movable type is because it enabled books to be distributed cheaply and easily. The chance to spread books to the general public, not the upper class in the Joseon Dynasty, can be said to be the emergence of Banggakbon (Wood-block Printed Book). Since Professor Kim Dong-wook took the lead, the study of Banggakbon script in Korea has been conducted mainly by researchers of old novels. After Prof. Kim Dong-wook, the study of Hangeul Banggakbon has achieved some results, but the entire list of Chinese Banggakbons has not yet been made. Prof. Kim started to deal with the Banggakbon script for the study of Chunhyang-jeon, but after that, he expanded the scope to all old novels and Chinese character Banggakbons. Considering his research on Banggakbon, it is impossible to erase the impression that the current research on Banggakbons in Korea is confined to Prof. Kim Dong-wook’s work. Although the number of studies on Banggakbons has increased, it seems that there needs to be a higher level of research on Banggakbon.
