Abstract

Abstract. Emotions reflect the attitude of a person towards others and the world in general, they have a significant influence on the way people motivate their actions, as well as on the choices humans make. These were the reasons to start the research on the nature of emotions in a number of sciences. The purpose of the article is to investigate the emotional aspect of the language and to analyze the features of emotional texts, namely, their pragmatic direction. For years, linguists argued about the feasibility of studying the emotive component of the language. One group of scientists believed that the cognitive function of the language was dominant and the most important, therefore they denied the need to study the emotional aspect (K. Buhler, G. Guillaume). Other scholars (Ch. Bally, M. Breal) considered the emotional function as the main one in the language and sought to explore it. All texts of any genre or functional style are intended to get the reader’s feedback, which can be expressed both in action and in changing one’s beliefs, thoughts and feelings. Literary texts are characterized by the highest level of emotional breadth, because the fundamental component of any literary text is its communicative purpose. Each written text, without exception, depicts the emotional life of people and conflicts that make readers experience certain feelings and emotions. One of the main features of literary texts is that their pragmatic aspect is expressed through a certain system of specific linguistic signs that serve to manifest the emotions in the text. Thus, the study of the emotional nature of the text remains one of the main areas of linguistics. Taking into account the research of V. I. Shakhovskyi and O. E. Filimonova, it can be argued that emotional function is an internal component of language, and it can be manifested at different levels. The emotional aspect is a characteristic feature for texts of all genres, but the most explicit depiction of it can be found in literary texts, since they are intended to influence the thoughts and feelings of people.
