Abstract
The article applies the interdisciplinary approach to examine the phenomenon of silence. It juxtaposes diverse definitions of «silence» which emerged in various branches of humanities. The article is focused on the communicatively significant silence which is highlighted by the opposing interests – conflict discourse. As a sign vehicle, «silence» can be explored either as a cultural concept, or a communication strategy. The article also studies linguistic tools to represent the concept «Silence» in literature.
