Especially important is his philological contribution to the source-critical studies of German Medieval texts that preserved information on Eastern Europe and the monuments of Old Russian ecclesiastical literature. Philological education enabled A.V. Nazarenko to professionally interpret German people- and place-names as well as the terms and to retrieve additional historical information. His works are a model of integrated, historical and philological, approach in historical studies.
