Abstract
This study is to investigate the related factors between depression, alcohol use disorder, and smartphone addiction among university students and to check the effect of each variable on smartphone addiction. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS22.0 Program, and regression analysis was used to determine the effects of college students’ depression and alcohol use disorder on smartphone addiction. As a result of the study, there were statistically significant differences in smartphone addiction according to the subjects’ general characteristics in gender, interpersonal relationships, and smartphone usage time. Also, it was confirmed that depression and alcohol use disorder had a positive correlation with smartphone addiction, and the explanatory power of depression and alcohol use disorder for smartphone addiction was 16.5%. Based on the results of this study, when counseling and education for smartphone addiction among college students is applied, strategies are established in connection with mental health such as alcohol use disorder and depression, and research on smartphone addiction prevention and intervention programs considering these related factors is required.
