Abstract

The competitiveness of regions is one of the significant characteristics in the development of strategies and programs for their development, which determines the need to use adequate indicators and methods of its assessment. The approaches to assessing the competitiveness of Russian regions used both in the system of public administration and in the practice of rating agencies are considered. The foreign experience of assessing the competitiveness of regions is summarized and the priorities of socio-economic transformation of regions are highlighted, which must be taken into account when developing indicators for assessing their competitiveness. The theoretical and methodological approaches of Russian scientists to the problem of choosing indicators for assessing the competitiveness of regions are analyzed. Based on the conducted comparative critical analysis, the author’s set of indicators for assessing the competitiveness of the region is proposed and justified.
