Abstract

The article investigates the concept of linguistic catastrophism, based on material of the anti-utopian novel S.N.U.F.F. by Viktor Pelevin. The investigation analyses the linguistic means the author uses to create a satirical image of Post-Soviet Russia, taking into account the Russian anti-utopian tradition and linguo-stylistic patterns of Post-Modernist new-wave prose. The article investigates the artistic apprehension of the current existence of the language. The author identifies the socially dangerous diseases of language and culture, noting the destruction of national identity: replacement of book culture by a visual one, expansion of “alien” elements into culture, depressive condition of moral culture, marginalization of the mentally specific layers of lexis and phraseology, language bureaucratization, and pragmatic language politics, texts algorithmization, orthographic paralysis, graphic eclecticism, crisis of the creative language personality, degradation of the language of poetry.
