Abstract

The positive dynamics of design development in Ukraine encourages the demand for quality professional education that meets not only the requirements of stakeholders, but also European and international standards. Designer is becoming one of the most popular professions, and prestigious HEI`s offer to obtain design education in various educational programs. The development of business, management, marketing, advertising, digitalization of the economy significantly affect not only the prestige of design education, but also necessitate changes and approaches in the training of specialists. At the same time, there are a number of problems that characterize the lack of compliance of the design education system with market requirements, disregard for the development of new technologies and global trends. As a result, domestic design education offers a small number of specializations, a focus mainly on art disciplines and an excessive load of theory. The activities of most domestic freelancers who train designers are characterized by the presence of contradictions concerning the names of educational programs, curriculum content, list of compulsory and elective disciplines, practical component, interaction with employers, organization of educational process, which determines the relevance of research in this area. Most of practicing designers do not have higher education, while the available education is insufficient for specialists to understand the requirements of the market and the principles of doing business. Non-formal education also does not perform this function, focuses on short-term skills, focuses on current rather than future market needs, does not give a clear idea of the business in the field of design and prospects for development. Prospects for the development of modern design education are to expand and deepen the cooperation of domestic free economic HEI`s with stakeholders, which are focused not only on current needs but also on future market demands. A combination of formal and non-formal education is also an important area. The implementation of the measures identified in the study can create an effective basis for eliminating the identified shortcomings and contribute to the long-term development of competitive design education in Ukraine.
