Abstract
Since 2006, an analysis of the activities of peasant (farmer) farms has been carried out, among which there is a fairly wide spread in both the provision of land and labor resources, as well as their material and technical equipment. Today there is no systematic analysis of the organizational structure and conditions of functioning of farms in general and in some subjects of the Russian Federation, which create the illusion of successful development of all Russian farming. Despite the numerical superiority of small farms, their share in total production remains insignificant. Only large and super-large farms show sufficiently high economic efficiency. The article examines the reasons for the low efficiency of small farms, and also shows ways to increase their profitability.
