Abstract
Chorioamnionitis is a common cause of preterm birth and can lead to poor maternal and neonatal outcomes, including severe fetal neurodevelopmental consequences. Chorioamnionitis is characterized by a combination of heterogeneous conditions associated with infection or inflammation, which has led to changes in the definition and basic concepts of this condition. The article provides an overview of current publications about chorioamnionitis and presents the concept of Triple I, which includes three concepts: isolated maternal fever, suspected infection / inflammation, confirmed infection and inflammation. Depending on this classification, a decision is made on the term of completion of pregnancy and further management of newborns. The article also highlights methods for diagnosing chorioamnionitis, including immunological and microbiological markers, with an assessment of their sensitivity and specificity.
