Abstract

Virtual identity is a structural part of a person's identity marnifested in transferring self-perception to the image of the self in virtual space. A special case of virtual identity is network identity as a transfer of identity to the image of the self in cyberspace. The very possibility of virtual identity arises from two features of human interaction with virtual reality. The first one lies in a person's ability to empathise and identify himself or herself with objects that are close to him or her in external characteristics, and the tendency to assign them similar spiritual characteristics through storytelling. The second feature is in the immersiveness of virtual reality as a manipulation of these features. Once a virtual identity has been created, one moves into a stable and permanent state of separa-tion of one's consciousness between objective and virtual reality. It leads to the emergence of global phenomena that demonstrate a shift in identity formation and reorganisation of the self. There is a widespread phenomenon of the unfolding of one's inner world, a change in the understanding and feeling of the fundamental properties of reality, restructuring of the perception of pri-mordiality and secondaryity of personal and bodily characteristics of man, his finitude and permanence, making the phenomena of transsexuality, experience rebooting and "repost-identity" widespread online.
