Abstract
The article discusses the key problems and leading approaches to understanding the relationship between science and morality. The historical analysis of the change of the idea of ethical neutrality to the trend of moral conditionality of science is carried out. A philosophical analysis of the dichotomy, including freedom of scientific search and social responsibility of a scientist, led to the conclusion that any scientific research affecting the field of activity and interests of both the current and future generations should be subject to a transparent, comprehensive and broad discussion. The necessity of developing an ethical code of a scientist and ways of controlling scientific activity adequate to the current stage of development of science and society as a whole is substantiated.
