Abstract

The paper describes various mechanisms of semantic changes in one of the Dagestani languages, Agul. The lexical semantics of Agul is currently an understudied but extremely interesting area of Caucasian linguistics. One of the most interesting ways in which polysemousness and synonymy emerge is the euphemisation of words and expressions due to various socio-cultural, ethical and moral reasons.
