Abstract
The article considers the problem of theatrical performance perception by the modern audience. The author concludes that the audience’s assessments are influenced by several factors: a spectator’s personal and artistic experience, originality of theatrical expressive means, novelty of the stage director’s approach, balance between traditional and avant-garde artistic and expressive means, influence of theatrical performance on a viewer’s psycho-emotional and cognitive sphere, the effect of catharsis in the theatre. The author identifies spectators’ preferences when choosing a certain performance of Vladimir Academic Drama Theatre.
