Abstract

Based on former studies on the ancient Aprok River(鴨綠), the northern boundary of Silla was limited to the south of Pyongyang-Hamheung frontier so, it is not escaped from Korean Peninsula, thus next dynasty Goryo also has northern boundary which limited far from the current Aprok River. This phenomenal background was these two rivers, Aprok and Paesu(浿水), were mistakenly located still in Korean peninsula even they were in northern area of Liaotung peninsula.
Accordingly, through the analysis of 「Dorigi道里記」written by Tang(唐) delegate Gatam(賈耽), a port Dangeunpo the maritime gateway where the ships carrying Gatam entered Liaodong was located in Liaohe river. The river named Aprok in ancient period is Liaohe river where the shipping and massive maritime campaign in war time possible. The geographical map「Juhaedo-pyeon舟海圖編」in Ming dynasty and 「Doseo-pyeon圖書編」proved this, and it was confirmed that the Daling River(大凌河) was also called the Aprok River in sometimes. Accordingly, it is reasonable that Goryeo royal palace(高麗 王城) and Hwando fortress(丸都城), which Gatam mentioned, should also be located near Tieling(鐵嶺) and Kaiyuan(開元) in the middle stream of Liaohe river(遼河) not Jian(輯安). In addition,『Liaoshi遼史』 confirms this fact again that the east area of Amyeonhyeon(岩淵縣) in Haizhou(海州) of Liaotung was attached to the northern frontier of Silla, and fortress called Sillachae(新羅寨) was depicted in『Juhaedo- pyeon籌海圖編』prove this.
