Abstract

The article examines the existing approaches to the definition of the largest cities as regional centers of innovative and scientific development of territories. A study of foreign and domestic experience in the implementation of industrial changes based on spatial agglomeration was conducted, the main models of the implementation of industrial changes were identified, the largest cities – regional innovation centers at various stages of the development of the domestic economy (1989, 2019, 2021) were identified based on the analysis of the patent landscape. The authors formulate a conclusion about the decisive role of the largest cities as points of innovative, scientific and cultural growth in the evolutionary development of territorial production systems.
