Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of verbal violence experienced by participants in life sports on basic psychological needs. In order to achieve this study purpose, data were collected from 223 people who participated in daily sports in 5 districts in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang. For the collected data, frequency analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural model equations were performed through SPSS and AMOS statistical programs. The resulting results are as follows. First, the impairment of self-concept due to verbal violence of life sports participants partially had a significant effect on basic psychological needs. Second, the feeling of humiliation due to verbal violence of the sports participants had a significant effect on their basic psychological needs. Through this study, it is meaningful to raise awareness about verbal violence in the field of physical education and to provide basic data for the prevention of verbal violence.
