Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between grit, exercise commitment, and burnout of collegiate athletes. Participants of this study were 277 (male=176, female=101, Mean age=20.81) collegiate Taekwondo athletes. Data were collected by using GRIT-O scale, ESCM scale, and TABS, and analyzed by using descriptive statistics, correlation, and structural equation modeling (SEM). The results of this study revealed as follows. First, two subfactors of grit, consistency of interest and perseverance of effort, had positive effect on exercise commitment. Second, exercise commitment had negative effect on burnout. Third, while consistency of interest had negative effect on burnout, perseverance of effort had no statistically significant effect. In conclusion, grit of collegiate athletes identified as a key factor in predicting exercise commitment and burnout.
