Abstract
In August 2021, the Japanese Cabinet Secretariat released a promotional video titled “Takeshima and Ahn Yongbok’s Statement in the Edo Period” on its website. In March 2023, the Cabinet Secretariat posted three additional promotional videos under the title “Takeshima Shimane Prefecture Incorporation Story.” The Cabinet Secretariat’s promotional video only presents favorable aspects of Nakai’s annexation of Dokdo and sometimes even falsifies historical facts. Objective assessment of the unfavorable aspects is lacking. It is crucial to conduct a thorough analysis of the documents released by the Cabinet Secretariat by comparing them with the contemporary records. This is because there is a significant risk of false information being disseminated
