Abstract
The creative work of Apollinaris Mikhailovich Vasnetsov (1856-1933), an outstanding master of landscape painting, occupies a prominent place in the history of Russian art of the late XIX – first third of the XX century. Having started his artistic activity in the 1880-ies, A.M. Vasnetsov firmly linked his fate with the realistic art of that time. Formed as a landscape painter in the Association of Wanderers, he then entered the Union of Russian artists, where he continued to follow the democratic ideals. He was a multi-faceted man gifted, in his face harmoniously combined talents of the artist and scientist. Activities Apollinaris Mikhailovich was distinguished versatility. A wonderful landscape painter-creator of the epic and historical landscape, he also wrote several scientific works on the theory of art, history, archeology. These works, interesting in themselves, contributed to the enrichment and deepening of the content of his paintings.
