Abstract

The article is devoted to the heroic epic “Manas” as an important historical source for the study of ethnocultural ties of the Kirghiz with the Bashkirs, who, in the author’s opinion, should be viewed as the eshteks. The article provides a comparative analysis of episodes with their participation, cited in the versions of storytellers Balyk, S. Orozbakov, J. Mamai and excerpts from the work recorded by Ch.Ch. Valikhanov, E.D. Polivanov and other researchers. Epic image of the Eshtek’s leader Dzhamgyrchi is also compared with information from written sources on the Bashkirian medieval history.
