Abstract
The article examines the problem of the genesis of two variants of the plot “About a Soldier” (recorded in 1925 and 1936) by the Voronezh storyteller A. K. Baryshnikova. A comparison of the folklore narrative with a number of Russian translations and adaptaions of Defoe’s novel “Robinson Crusoe” demonstrates that the source of the tale was the “Robinson the Younger” by I. Campe in the retelling of the teacher A. P. Serdobolsky edited by L. N. Tolstoy (1862; reprinted 1874, 1933). The results open up the prospect of a comparative analysis of the established literary original and texts by A. K. Baryshnikova in the aspect of transforming the conceptual and stylistic pattern of the primary source in context of the genre and cultural stereotypes of the storyteller.
