Abstract

For the first time, the article examines the development of the tradition of studying the Victorian religiosity in Russia. The authors conclude that in imperial Russia, the interest for this problem was conditioned by the intensification of the Anglican-Orthodox relations, special attention was paid to the Oxford movement. In the Soviet epoch, due to ideological causes, the problem of the Victorian religiosity ceased to capture the researchers’ attention. Nowadays, the English religious life of the XIX century is studied most intensively, which allows concluding that formation of the domestic historiography on this issue is finished.
