Abstract

Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of social and economic activities on life satisfaction of the elderly, and to provide measures to improve life satisfaction of the elderly by grasping the mediating effect of health status on life satisfaction in this relationship. Methods The subjects of the study were 9,840 elderly people aged 65 in the 5th (2020) of the survey on the elderly, and the collected data were statistically analyzed with the SPSS 22.0 program. First, statistical analysis was analyzed by the reliability analysis, frequency analysis, technical statistical analysis, and mediating effect by Baron & Kenny. Results It was found that social activities of the elderly had a positive effect on life satisfaction in the order of other-oriented activities and self-oriented activities. In the effect of the elderly's economic activities on health status, work satisfaction in economic activities had a positive effect, and work satisfaction in economic activities had a positive effect on life satisfaction. It can be seen that health status shows a significant mediating effect in the relationship between social activity and economic activity and life satisfaction. Conclusions According to the results of this study, environmental creation and action plans were presented to revitalize social activities and increase health status of the elderly.
