Abstract

This study examined changes in Dokdo education in the elementary school curriculum. We analyzed how the Dokdo educational content system is reflected in textbooks important for Dokdo learning. Through this, the current situation and problems of Dokdo education in elementary schools were grasped, and future-oriented measures to conduct interesting and in-depth Dokdo education at appropriate levels were sought. The 10 categories of the system of Dokdo Education contents are location, territory, topography, climate, ecology, resources, geographical name changes, Dokdo guardian data, Japan's territorial claims, and responses, and Efforts to protect territorial sovereignty. However, when looking at the classification items covered in the textbooks of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education and the Northeast Asian History Foundation, all of the 10 categories are not described. Also in the continuous Dokdo education, it seems that the amount and difficulty of classification items to be dealt within each of the lower and upper grades are not properly classified or systematically organized. Elementary, middle, and high schools are divided, and the suggested content elements are ignored. In elementary school, the content elements to be addressed in the middle, and high school are being described. Currently, the system of Dokdo education contents that reflects the 2015 revised curriculum of the Ministry of Education has strengthened Dokdo education in front-line schools and has been pursuing detailed implementation plans relatively well. In particular, as the education centered on student activities is strengthened, Dokdo education is pursuing changes so that various learning opportunities centered on experience and activities can be guaranteed. In consideration of these points, the contents of the textbooks are written at the elementary school level, and along with these, Dokdo's nature, Dokdo's historical records, stickers on animals and plants of Dokdo, Dokdo crosswords, Dokdo board games, and Dokdo bookmarks are created to help Dokdo-related experiences and activities. The development of Dokdo textbooks focusing on student participation is also required.
