Abstract

The study proves the relevance of creating the modern system of patriotic education and an opportunity to apply international teaching practices in this regard. The paper focused on the works of educators and philosophers who introduced the development principles of civil responsibility and love for the motherland into the education system before the term ‘patriotism’ came into being. A retrospective analysis of patriotic education in the history of international education science demonstrates that many ideas, concepts and technology for the development of patriotism are still appropriate. The study presents different interpretations of the term ‘patriotism’ from the viewpoint of international researchers, defines the concept of patriotic education and determines the main approaches of outstanding Western scientists in this field. The analysis of the scientific literature identifies that patriotic education is increasingly recognized as a worldwide educational concern.
