Abstract
The author wrote an article about the study of discursive words that represent the concept of “confidence”. In the article, the author wrote that modern linguistics studies several meanings of the concept “confidence”. Linguists study the narrative sentence, describe that the speaker is convinced of the content and tries to convince the addressee. Linguists also study situations where the speaker agrees with the authenticity of the content. The author identified two discursive words as the subject of the article: “of course” and “understandable”. In the article, the author proved that the considered discursive words help connect the discourse, clarify the mood of the speaker and contribute to the success of practical communication. In the article, the author noted that the grammatical meaning of discursive words is close to interjections and modal particles. In the article, the author found out that the words “of course” and “understandable” are unevenly distributed in different types of discourse. The word “of course” is the most common. In the article, the author writes that these words can be used as a compound conjunction. In complex conjunctions “of course” and “understandable” retain their semantic elements. The author of the article came to the conclusion that the discursive words “of course” and “understandable” with the conceptual meaning “confidence” represent ambiguity and semantic branching, the words require taking into account the context of the communicative situation.
