Abstract
In recent years, a number of scientists in Russia and other countries have been engaged in research on efficient power plants for vehicles and on the choice of a fuel type for them that meets economic and environmental conditions. The purpose of the research is to consider and substantiate the efficiency of using liquefied and compressed natural gas in combination with diesel fuel for shunting locomotives. In accordance with the literature reviews, the basic requirements for creating a model of a gas-diesel engine are summarized. The main properties of the gas fuel used for vehicles are considered and the possibility of constant supply of locomotive engines with gas fuel is justified. As a result of the conducted analyses and studies, it was revealed and substantiated that the use of liquefied natural gas as an additive to diesel fuel has a positive effect on the performance of the power plant.
