Abstract

The purpose of this scientific review is to consider the contribution to science of the prominent Russian forensic psychiatrist B.V. Shostakovich. The article presents the stages of his biography, analysis of his main scientific works. B.V. Shostakovich’s contribution to the study of methodological, theoretical and scientific-practical problems of forensic mental health assessment, limited responsibility, and forensic sexology are analyzed. Forensic psychiatry is shown as an interdisciplinary scientific discipline in the context of philosophical anthropology. B.V. Shostakovich’s legacy is presented against the background of the genealogy of the Shostakovich family which has a number of outstanding contributors to world culture.
