Abstract

Crimes of slander and denigration committed via social media have developed with the advancement of social media; hence it has become easy to commit such crimes using communication sites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. These crimes have spread through these sites by perpetrators posting information that are disgraceful and discrediting towards others. To counter this crime, the Palestinian legislature established a legal system that could hold the accountable and impose the maximum penalties on them. Moreover, the law has provided the aggrieved person with the right to file a lawsuit before the competent court to claim the civil right of compensation to redress the moral damage caused by the crime. The compensation value is calculated through an expert's report who assesses the moral damages according to various criteria.
