Abstract
The article tackles a relevant comprehensive problem - summarizing historical experience of developing culture and its key component - science - in the multinational North Caucasian region in one of the most successful decades of the modern Russian history. Relying on historiographical works, previously unknown documentary sources and materials the author describes the development history of academic, higher school and sectoral science in four autonomous republics - Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkarian, North Ossetian and Chechen-Ingush ASSR; in particular, the paper examines such issues as scientific institutions functioning, training of national scientific personnel, cooperation in the sphere of scientific activity.
