Abstract

Seoul has been conducting the “Seoul Future heritage project” since 2013. Seoul future heritage refers to all tangible and intangible things worth passing on to future generations among the modern cultural heritages of Seoul that are not designated or registered as cultural properties. Since 2009, Japan has established the National Federation of UNESCO Association in Japan in the form of a public utility association. Each year, among cultural heritage and natural heritage in each region, heritages that are worth delivering in the future are selected. The selected heritage is supported under the name of ‘Heritage for the future project’. In this study, Seoul Future heritage and Japan's Heritage for the future project were investigated, respectively, and their implications and problems were compared and analyzed. This objectively examines the Seoul Future heritage project, which has many advantages, and attempts to suggest a better direction. In addition to the Seoul Future heritage, the Future heritage project, which is rapidly expanding to other regions of the country, should be further activated by itself and settled reflecting the characteristics of each region. Future heritage should not be limited to selection, and as a result, the ultimate purpose is to preserve and utilize cultural heritage that has an important meaning in the future. Therefore, it is important to draw implications and improvement points through comparison with Japan.
