Abstract

The purpose of this study is to clarify how ‘sadness’ and ‘seulpeum’ are conceptualized among emotion concepts that appear in English and Korean based on corpus of the conceptual metaphor theory of cognitive linguistics. This study has significance in two ways: First, there are a few studies on the conceptualization of various emotions, but the analysis data are limited. However, this study is based on the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) and the Research Institute of Korean Studies (RIKS). It can be said that the validity of the research results s great because an empirical research analysis was performed of all of all language use cases related to the research subject. Second, this paper can identify differences in terms of cultural variation as well as common language commonalities between the two languages by contrast analysis of emotion concepts in English and Korean.
