Abstract

The aim of the study is to describe the word formation of terminological lexical units related to IT-technology and online education. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that a comparative description of Chinese terms functioning in various fields of knowledge, in particular in the field of IT-technology and online-education, has been provided for the first time and the emerging changes in the sphere of Chinese word formation have been identified. The results have shown that the Chinese language, which has a rich and varied system of word formation based on traditional Chinese word-formation methods, is undergoing changes in some fields of knowledge: in the field of IT-technology, there are term-words consisting of 7-8 syllables and term-phrases consisting of 7-8 components. The results indicate that Chinese terminology is evolving towards complexity, i.e. polysyllabism, and this process is most likely due to the linguistic tendency to give accurate interpretation of new realities in any field of knowledge.
