Abstract
The mechanisms behind damage to cylindrical shells during inertial convergence are investigated in this article. As solids are subjected to increasing pressures and temperatures during this convergence, they develop a distinct wavy texture on the outer surface, consisting of raised and indented areas. The shape of the protrusions confirms its hydrodynamic origin. The behaviour of the shells is similar to that of cylindrical solid samples in the final stage of convergence.
